Veterinary Technology students “horse around” while getting hands-on training at Hart Ranch

Vet Tech Students TrainingHorses from Hart Ranch in Corona, Calif., have performed in the Olympics, appeared in Hollywood movies and played polo. Now, they’re helping ϲ students earn their degrees. Twenty Veterinary Technology students from ϲ in Pomona got the chance to do some hands-on training with these larger-than-life animals at Hart Ranch. Students learned how to walk a horse, lift its feet, draw blood, take leg X-rays, take a temperature reading and more. “You see horses in a new light when approaching them from a clinical standpoint,” said Samantha Hayes, a ϲ Veterinary Technology student who graduates in April. “You interact on a deeper level by reading the animal’s feelings and anticipating how it might act. It’s very rewarding.” Veterinary Technician Horse Lab TrainingOne of the reasons I picked this career path is because of the options it gives you,” said Hayes. “I can work in the field with veterinarians and researchers – or I can work in a hospital.” Graduates of Carrington’s Veterinary Technology program will leave with the skills and confidence needed to apply for entry-level positions in places like veterinary offices, animal hospitals and shelters.
