Jessica has been in the Veterinary Assisting program at 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Mesa, Arizona campus for six months. 鈥淪o far I鈥檝e learned how to do CPR on a dog, I鈥檝e learned how to clean their ears and do their toenails,鈥 she said. The program combines classroom work with hands-on training. Student Ana described what she鈥檚 learned in the classroom. 鈥淢edical terms and the proper way to do things, and then we actually put it into practice,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e learn about radiology, surgical assistance, disease, vaccinations for those disease, treatments for those diseases and everything that they would need to education a client on,鈥 said Mesa Veterinary Assisting Program Director Kelsey White. Student Andrea said her favorite part is the hands-on training. 鈥淏oth my instructors are really nice and they鈥檙e able to explain everything well,鈥 she said. 鈥淥nce you鈥檙e working you鈥檙e prepared already, so you already know pretty much what you鈥檙e doing,鈥 said student Eileen. 鈥淲e have a lot of fun in our classroom. We do focus a lot on dogs and cats so we do bloodwork, we also have new microscopes and we have a lot of fun doing microscopy,鈥 White said. 鈥淲e鈥檒l learn how to draw up the proper vaccine with the animal鈥檚 weight and the concentration of the vaccine,鈥 Ana said. 鈥淚 like seeing the students go out to their externships and come back and say 鈥業 learned so much here I got hired鈥 and that鈥檚 the best thing,鈥 said Mesa Instructor Carie Chmura. What advice do current students have for people considering an education in veterinary assisting? 鈥淭o just hurry up and sign up. Just do it, I mean I know my instructors and I know they鈥檒l be able to learn everything that they possibly can coming here,鈥 Andrea said. So what are you waiting for?
